Winskill Editorial sfep image

Winskill Editorial is the business name of Gale Winskill.

  • I have worked as an editor since 1993.

  • Freelance in UK since 2008; freelanced in Hong Kong, 1994–95.

  • Editorial and proofreading skills have been accumulated in a number of working environments, in both the UK and Hong Kong, ensuring that I am extremely versatile across a variety of media and subject areas.

  • Professional work has been publicly recognised. Some of my authors have won, or been shortlisted for various prizes and awards (see Children’s Fiction and Client Comments).

  • I have presented training courses and workshops on a variety of editing and freelance-related subjects, to a wide range of audiences (see Training).

  • Project-managed a professional online training course (Introduction to Fiction Editing, SfEP), which involved: writing some of the chapters and exercises; finding, instructing and editing other contributors; collating and structuring material.

  • I speak Italian fluently, have a good working knowledge of French, as well as some German.

  • I have travelled extensively, and lived and worked in Thailand, Egypt, Hong Kong and Italy. I worked as a PADI scuba divemaster for two years, and am interested in cooking, gardening, Pilates, tennis and film. Some of this has proved surprisingly useful for various editing commissions.
